NHS Health Checks
Leading Healthier Lives
Have you had your free NHS Health Check?
NHS Health Checks are a free, preventive health assessment offered by GP practices to adults aged 40-74 every 5 years. These checks are designed to identify early signs of conditions such as heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of dementia. By assessing the risk for these conditions, the check provides valuable advice on how to reduce them.
The check takes around 20-30 minutes and includes a variety of tests and measurements, including a finger-stick test for cholesterol, blood pressure measurement, height, weight, and information about your ethnicity. After the assessment, patients are walked through their results, what they mean, and provided with personalised advice on how to lower their risks and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
