Research & Training Academy

Dr Azhar Zafar leads our Research and Training Academy.

The research team conduct medical research activity to advance knowledge and understanding of managing various conditions, with the aim of reducing hospital admissions and improving patients’ quality of life and life expectancy.

Current research activity includes Diabetes Group Consultations, CKD/Lipids, Heart Disease and COPD.

The team work with practices across Northampton and their patients, delivering excellent service centrally, at scale.

The Training Academy works closely with Leicester Medical School and others, placing around seventy trainee GPs at year 3 and year 5 of their studies in practices across Northampton. While they are with us, the students will work alongside GPs in practice, meeting patients, as well as joining tutorials on a wide range of clinical subjects. We also provide accommodation for the students in Northampton during their placements.
